What brought you to Ensorcell?
Growing up in the Midwest, I always felt drawn to the pace and innovation of the East Coast. This led me to living in Boston after college, where I began my career in electrochemical research and development for Duracell. As my career evolved, I met Jeff Goldman during my time at Thermo Fisher where we were deeply involved in the sales and business sides of science, including working through multiple high-profile mergers.
When Jeff approached me all these years later with the Ensorcell concept, I was beyond intrigued. Now six months in, this position allows me to do things I really enjoy while reimagining a new legacy for life science tools.
How has life science tool demand evolved over time?
Industry has evolved so rapidly over the past twenty years from the sectors to economic drivers and government support. Changes in government spending and funding have lowered the level of research and development and a shift in the relationships amongst academia, labs and big pharma and big biotech has also impacted innovation levels.
We see big players with extensive offers, but not a lot of new tool providers coming into the market. When they do, the competition is so fierce that it can impact the longevity of what that company is trying to do. This is something Ensorcell is seeking to change with our business model and product portfolio.
What differentiates Ensorcell from competitors?
We are working with an established network of researchers and developers at ReBuild Manufacturing yet have the flexibility of a startup. That means we can move fast while making deep progress, but it is also a great team that has a lot of care and concern for what we are doing and how we can impact customers.
For example, our microscopy clients can design based on their own needs at prices that are accessible—sometimes even 1/3 of the price. This is not just about the innovation of design or a lower price; there is such a human element to it. We make the team very available to work with clients and meet them where they are at and grow with them. It is a true partnership model.
How does the unique structure of Ensorcell impact the customer?
This is like a new revolution. We are designing from the ground up, yet we are strong fiscally. This is true greenfield engineering where we make tools that are intuitive, can be customized, and cost about 1/3 of what the existing solutions do. There is nothing like this in the market. We are working to empower customers while we grow a company that we want to be a legacy in this market.
What is your favorite thing about working in the life sciences sector?
The people and the connections are what drive me most. I believe in being a super connector and making sure that we are all on the same page and keeping progress moving forward. Ensorcell is the iteration of this in a business model.
